Desktop virtualization

Desktop Virtualization or Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) gives the ability to host and centrally manage desktop virtual machines in the data center while giving end users a full PC desktop experience. VDI provides many benefits including:

  • Instant provisioning of new desktops
  • Desktop computing power on demand
  • Near-zero downtime in the event of hardware failures
  • Significant reduction in the cost of new application deployment
  • Ease file server consolidation on data centers

But deploying a VDI infrastructure successfully can be very challenging. VDI architecture uses server based computing protocols, such as Citrix ICA or Microsoft Terminal Services RDP traffic. The behaviour of this type of traffic is extremely diverse since it can be either very sensitive to latency (keystrokes for instance) or to bandwidth limitations (heavy graphical display, print job, file transfer…). Additionally, a VDI session can alternate from delay-sensitive to bandwidth-sensitive requirements in a less than a second. Therefore, guaranteeing user experience over the WAN, regardless of which application is accessed (e.g., ERP, Word) through the VDI infrastructure, is a very challenging task for the IT team.

Streamcore Data Center Solutions provide the most advanced and truly unique features to guarantee predictable response time to virtualized desktop traffic:

  • Guarantee users maximum application performance. The UCP engine (User Competition Prioritization) analyzes application behavior and provides a suitable response to each one: regulation of high-volume transfers, dynamic management of screen refreshements, and automatic prioritization of keyboard strokes.
  • Prioritize each VDI session when they compete with non-business traffic over the WAN
  • Monitor VDI performance levels in real-time and over the long-term
  • Automatically detect whether branch offices are suffering from degraded performance
